Liquid-Chalkers

The products being reviewed were provided to BargainPier free-of-charge. This has not influenced our review in any way. The opinions expressed within are our own.

Kids use chalk for just about everything. Learning, drawing, play-time, all are an essential part of being a kid. The one drawback is the chalk dust. It gets everywhere. On clothes, hands, tables and floors. The dust washes off, but you can’t stop it. There is an alternative though, liquid chalk. While not a new product on the market, it is an evolving one.

Liquid-Chalkers is one of the newer liquid chalk products available. It comes in the form of a marker that is very similar in style to a paint pen. Unlike a paint pen, Liquid-Chalkers are designed to be used on just about any non-porous surface. Chalkboards, glass, metal and white-boards are all acceptable surfaces. Once dry, the liquid chalk will wipe off with nothing more than a damp cloth.

From the Liquid-Chalkers Website:

  • Bright, Amazing Colors - 365 Day Happiness Guarantee. Try these markers with no risk and watch them transform your creativity.
  • Goes on easily and then wipes off with a damp cloth.
  • Hyper pigmentation ensuring bright, beautiful colors with marker tips that don't dry out or crack.
  • True 6mm chisel tip marker means you can write with precision and easily fill large areas as well.
  • Dustless, no smearing and no ink running down your surface while you write so it's no mess.

Our test subjects for this review were 3 year old Kellen, 6 year old Tucker and 1 year old Camden. They were very excited to test out the markers. Having not tested the markers beforehand, they needed to be primed. This involved shaking them for several seconds then depressing the tip for up to 45 seconds. That was a little longer than our test subjects wanted to wait but, they survived.

Kellen and Tucker draw with Liquid-Chalkers

Giving each of the kids a Liquid-Chalker, they proceeded to draw on a small chalkboard. On the first run we learned a few things. The markers work best if you write or draw slowly. That tended to differ slightly depending on the marker. The liquid chalk seemed to flow faster on some of the markers.

After the first test run, the chalkboard was wiped down with a damp cloth. The board cleaned up very well. The chalk seemed to dry to a more soft plastic consistency. Rubbing a finger over the chalk also removed it from the board very easily. The best part, no dust or filmy residue remained.

The second time through, Tucker realized that if you held the tip of the marker down it would leave a pool of liquid chalk on the board. The pool remained liquid for a while. If touched the liquid had the potential to cover just about everything. This is where adult supervision was a must. We allowed the liquid to dry before wiping it off. It took a little more work but it came off with minimal effort.

Test run two

After letting the chalk dry and cleaning the board a second time the kids lost interest. They had tried everything we needed them to. Each of the kids had used several of the markers with great success. They were able to draw and write without making a serious mess. They did get some of the liquid on themselves but it easily washed off. The best part, no chalk dust!

Liquid–Chalkers are definitely a recommended product. They are not just for playtime or learning. I can see them being used in many scenarios. Writing the daily specials on a lunch board. Writing quick notes for someone on the bathroom mirror. Replacing the dry-erase markers on your whiteboard.

Liquid-Chalkers can be purchased from their website (http://www.liquidchalkers.com) or from Amazon.

Liquid Chalk Markers 8 Pack Liquid Chalk Markers - White 4 Pack

A word of caution: Before using, it is recommended that you test the markers on a corner of the surface you are going to be drawing on. Non-porous surfaces are not recommended. Using on a non-porous could make the liquid chalk difficult to remove. Avoid a disaster and test them first.

Now for the good stuff! We have an 8-pack of Liquid-Chalkers to give away to one of our lucky readers.
